Poquoson Kiwanis Honored by School
by Joe Discenza
Poquoson Primary School
honored Poquoson Kiwanis member and long-time volunteer
tutor Mr. Richard E. Bachmann January 8, 2008 in a
ceremony in the Primary School library to name that
library in his honor. Dick was an early volunteer and
led the Tutoring At Poquoson Primary School, or TAPPS,
program for thirteen years. Through his leadership
and coordination of the Kiwanis volunteers for tutoring
reading, that program has grown and helped and is helping
many primary school students get a reading "head start." The success of that program also inspired a second program for tutoring math
at the Poquoson Middle School. The Kiwanis Club of
Poquoson has also re-named the tutoring program in
his honor. The Poquoson School Superintendent and Kiwanis
member Jennifer Parish attended. Principal Susan Butler
and Dr. Michael Condrey, Poquoson Kiwanis President,
conducted the ceremony. Pictured are, right to left

Superintendent Jennifer Parish, and Primary School
