Poquoson Club

On Tuesday, at their weekly breakfast, The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson presented a "Truck Load of Toys" to the Poquoson Empty Stocking Fund. This is the tenth year Kiwanis has participated in this worthwhile program, spearheaded by Frank and Madonna Kreiger of Poquoson.

The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson congratulated member Mr. Brian Wilson on his selection for 2010 "WAVY 10 Who Care" award. Mr. Wilson was among only ten citizens selected from all of Hampton Roads to receive this award.

Brian joined the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson in 2000 and within a short time rose to the office of Club President and then Division 23 Lieutenant governor. He was honored as the 2009 Poquoson Kiwanian of the Year and the club also granted him a Hixson Fellowship.

Brian volunteers to the limit, and you can see his face at nearly every club special project, as well as his leadership of the club's sponsored Key Club at Poquoson High School.

Brian also organizes the Garvey Memorial Soccer Tournament, raising over $100,000 for breast cancer research, drives elderly citizens to medical appointments, helps in refurbishing parks, building residential ramps for handicapped citizens, and manning the U.S.O. station at the airport. He also participates in supporting library activities, judging school science fairs, and organizing regional Kiwanis support of the Salvation Army's clothing, food, and funds donations.

The 10 Who Care Awards, begun in 2008, are given by WAVY-TV 10 to recognize individuals throughout the Hampton Roads area who perform great public service, but who do so largely without recognition.
